DECEMBER 7, 2020 — Angie Hernandez knows how to put on a production. After serving as stage manager and special events coordinator at Sea World San Antonio and in the nonprofit sector with Catholic Charities before that, Angie Hernandez joins the team as a development assistant at the ITC.
Angie graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in theater arts and excelled in stage management – everything required to execute a production: script, casting, costume, lights, sound, music and all the details that make the difference. In the nonprofit sector, special events and campaigns work the same way.
At Catholic Charities, Angie delved into various roles including donor relations, event planning and social media. Her work at the institute will draw on these skills as she creates connections with donors and museum members to build relationships and raise funds for new programs.
“The wide variety of cultures we teach about is so important,” she said. “It draws the community in. With the lockdown, it’s difficult, but we’re working toward building a strong future and greater opportunities to reach students across the state and beyond.”
Hernandez is a born-and-raised San Antonian. She began work at UTSA in February 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, she has been meeting with internal teams and audiences and engaging the development department as she works virtually. She looks forward to in-person meetings and working more directly with donors and friends of the institute.
