UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures
The Consulate General of Mexico and the Mexican Cultural Institute (MCI) in partnership with the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures are pleased to announce the opening of the Andy A. Villarreal art exhibition curated by Arturo Infante Almeida, Art Specialist and Curator for the UTSA Art Collection.
Villarreal’s personal experiences and trips enrich the themes in his work and draw upon Mexican culture as a major source of inspiration. His work crosses cultures, portrays the human condition, the struggles, the harmony, the social injustice and the celebration of life. Ongoing themes combine history, mythology, and religion—past and present, real and contrived. The themes of life, sex, violence and humor join to enrich scenes of both normal and unusual activities. Villarreal’s work emphasizes intense social and cultural content as well as formal and contemporary aesthetic elements and includes various signs and symbols from ancient civilizations.
The exhibit will be open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can book an appointment at the MCI by calling 210-227-0123 or by emailing djauregui@sre.gob.mx.
