Urban Nature, Hidden Culture

August 24, 2018–November 11, 2018
At UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures

Exhibit Overview

Over the summer, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures teamed with the Headwaters at Incarnate Word to put on a three-part photography and nature workshop for students entering grades 5 through 8. The students’ exploration of the nature around them and photography is the basis for a new student exhibit at the institute.

Headwaters Sanctuary, managed by Headwaters at Incarnate Word, is the location of the Blue Hole, deemed the headwaters of the San Antonio River.

Through a course of three meetings at the Headwaters Sanctuary, students learned photography tips from professionals, explored the trails around the Blue Hole, explored the significance of the San Antonio River in shaping culture, and prepared their stories and artist statements for exhibition at the Institute.
