September 21, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will welcome Dr. Clark Wernecke and author Mary Black for a look into the lives of the first Texans.

Join us for a showing of the new documentary, “Exploring the World’s Last Frontier: The Peopling of the Americas” by the Gault School of Archaeological Research. This 21-minute documentary digs into the science and archaeological discoveries revolutionizing our understanding of the first people in Texas.

Some of the newest clues come from the Gault Site, an ancient camp and workshop where archaeologists have recovered hundreds of thousands of artifacts that tell about the lives of ancient people. After the film, Wernecke, the Gault School executive director, will take a deep dive into the archaeology in a presentation and Q&A session.

Author Mary Black will sign copies of her book, Secrets in the Dirt: Uncovering the Ancient People of Gault.

The lecture will coincide with Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live, which offers a free admission for two with a coupon from Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay.
