Construction is underway at the ITC’s new place in Frost Tower.
Over the past year, there’s been a flurry of activity behind the scenes as we prepare to reopen the Institute of Texan Cultures at our new home: the iconic Frost Tower in downtown San Antonio. This fall, we’ll host some previews as we prepare to open to the general public in early 2026.

We’re beyond excited to return to the heart of what we do best: celebrating Texans from everywhere, their stories, and their boundless love for this great state. So what have we been up to since closing our former site in May 2024? A lot more than just moving boxes.
First, we’ve been working closely with an incredible team of architects, contractors, designers, and museum professionals to reimagine the ITC for a new era. Think modern, interactive, and deeply engaging—a space where history meets innovation, and where our visitors can see themselves and encounter something that resonates with their own experience.
I recently toured the new site—hard hat and all—and saw real progress coming to life. Concrete has been poured, walls are rising, and systems like plumbing and electrical are being installed. Off-site, the magic of exhibition design is well underway, with fabricators crafting components that will eventually bring our galleries to life.
Behind the scenes, our team has been busy refining content, collaborating with community partners, and mapping out fresh ways to share the diverse stories that make Texas, well … Texas. From immersive digital experiences to hands-on activities for all ages, we’re building something that honors the past while looking boldly toward the future.
Stay tuned—we’ll have more updates, sneak peeks, and stories to share as we move closer to opening day. We can’t wait to welcome you back!
