This lapel pin is from Maria A. Berriozabal’s campaign for mayor of San Antonio, Texas in 1991. Berriozabal was the first Mexican American woman to serve on the city council of a major U.S. city. She served as representative of San Antonio’s District 1 from 1981-91. Her bid for mayor was unsuccessful however Berriozabal captured 47 percent of the vote.
