Rocking Chair

Creator:
Eugene Bullard
Creation Date:
ca. 1920
Accession Number:
I-0207b

This chair is made of pine wood, stained and varnished. The foam seat was added some years after its original construction, and ITC staff replaced the rockers due to splitting.

The chair was crafted by Eugene Bullard, the Calvert sharecropper who related his experiences to Joe Graham. Eugene and his wife, Anna Mae, donated several of their personal items to outfit the cabin, and excerpts of their oral histories played for visitors as they toured the exhibit.
